“I can fix it. But there’s no way I can make it bigger,” I say, sticking my hand through the gaping hole in the ass of the Santa suit. “You can take clothes in, but unless there’s a massive seam allowance, you really can’t let them out too far.”

Max looks as disappointed as I’m sure the kids in town are going to be when they find out there’s no Santa Claus at the Snowflake festival this year.

“Do you think you can repair it in time for the festival?” Trace asks, sliding his strong arm around my middle as he fingers the damage done by Max’s good intentions. If only they made Santa Suits more stretchy! Ha, can you imagine a Santa in Spandex!

“Definitely. But I’m not sure this quest to get a Cooper to play Santa is going to work out for you,” I say. “Unless…”

“Unless what?” Lucy asks. I can see the worry knitting her delicate brow. She’s such a soft touch when it comes to kids. She was practically my kids’ second mother for a while there when I was on my own after my ex left town. Then Trace came into my life and Max came into hers, and we’ve been one big extended family ever since. I seriously have the best life after all that struggle. But that’s the past, and the future requires a Santa to keep the magic of Moose Mountain alive. We fought so hard for this place, I’d hate for a hiccup like a missing Santa to do us in.

“Van. He’s a Cooper by marriage, and he’s not as giant as the rest of the Moose Mountain men. I reckon if we stick a couple of pillows in his front, he’ll fit this suit nicely.”

“OK,” Max says, nodding keenly. “Well, I guess if you can get the pants fixed, Rhys and I can chopper the suit over to the homestead on Bear Mountain and hand the baton to Van.”

“Just make sure you don’t tell him you’re coming,” Trace says, a big smirk on his gorgeous face. “Let it be a surprise like it was for the rest of us.”

Lucy and I shake our heads at each other while Max grins, rubbing his hands together with glee. If there’s something the Cooper brothers love to do, it’s give each other shit. Something tells me, this time will be no different.
